Dear Media Member:
On behalf of the Manzanar Committee, welcome to the 49th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage/2018 Manzanar At Dusk programs. We deeply appreciate your attendance and your coverage of our events.
2018 is a special year for us. 30 years ago, the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 was enacted, providing redress and reparations to the surviving Japanese and Japanese Americans (or their immediate families) who were unjustly incarcerated in America’s concentration camps during World War II. Manzanar was the first of those camps to be established. Our program will commemorate this important anniversary in American History.
Our Manzanar At Dusk program, which began in 1997 as Manzanar After Dark and is in now in its 21st year, will also commemorate this anniversary with an opening panel discussion on the fight for redress and reparations and its continuing relevance today.
To help facilitate your coverage, this web page includes our media guidelines for both events, along with background information on our organization and our press releases about our events, all of which you can download via links below (Adobe Acrobat Reader or equivalent PDF reader software required). A flyer detailing programs sponsored by the National Park Service at the Manzanar National Historic Site, and the National Park Service’s guidelines for news media, along with other materials, are also included for download.
Once again, thank you for attending today. We look forward to your coverage.
