LOS ANGELES — The 54th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the Manzanar National Historic Site, located on U.S. Highway 395 in California’s Owens Valley, between the towns of Lone Pine and Independence, approximately 230 miles north of Los Angeles (see map below).
Kyodo Taiko at UCLA will begin the Pilgrimage program at 11:30 AM PDT, while the main portion of the program begins at noon.
The popular Manzanar At Dusk program follows that same evening, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Lone Pine High School gymnasium, located at 538 South Main Street (U.S. Highway 395), in Lone Pine, nine miles south of the Manzanar National Historic Site, across the street from McDonald’s (see map below).

The Manzanar Committee has also established guidelines that all print, broadcast, and Internet media, along with any film/video crew or commercial photographer, must follow while covering the 54th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage and/or the 2023 Manzanar At Dusk program (see downloadable PDF file linked below).
Be advised that the National Park Service (NPS), which administers the Manzanar National Historic Site, has established guidelines for media, and generally requires permits for filming. The guidelines for coverage of the Pilgrimage do not supersede those of the NPS. Rather, they are meant to complement NPS guidelines for the afternoon Manzanar Pilgrimage event only. Please be sure to review their guidelines at https://www.nps.gov/manz/planyourvisit/filmandspecialusepermits.htm, and file the necessary permit requests before making the trip to Manzanar.
